DOXA Seminar Held November 10 at St. Athanasius Church in Arlington
On Saturday, November 10, DOXA held a wonderful seminar at the St. Athanasius Church in Arlington. The mission of DOXA is to provide religious educators the opportunity to grow as Orthodox Christian and fulfill their catechetical ministry in the life of the church as they teach the Good News of Christ and the doctrines and traditions of Orthodoxy. The theme for the seminar was ‘The Role of Parents and Teachers in Religious Education’. Teachers and parents throughout the Metropolis of Boston enjoyed a day of discussions, developmental sessions and fellowship. Sunday Worship
Sadly, Sunday has lost its significance in our society, becoming less of a day of worship of almighty God and more like any ordinary work day. This especially affects our young people who are obligated to attend sports events on Sunday mornings rather than attend the Divine Liturgy. At my request, this sad reality and its ramifications were discussed at the recent meeting of the Orthodox-Roman Catholic Consultation. After lengthy discussion, the following joint statement was issued. I ask you to read it carefully and approach civic, business and school authorities in your community to schedule sports events after 12 noon so that our young people may worship together with their families on Sunday mornings. His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios attended the 60th wedding anniversary party in honor of his dear friends Constintine and Betty Calliontzis, long-time members of the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston. On Sunday June 24th, family and friends celebrated Connie and Betty’s 60 year union at the Apollo Function Facility in Norwood, Massachusetts. Connie and Betty were married in 1952. Walkers from Throughout the Metropolis Joined Together for the Annual Walk for Hunger at Boston Common
On Sunday, May 6th, walkers from throughout the Metropolis of Boston walked up to 20 miles in support of Project Bread's annual Walk for Hunger where 41,000 people joined together to stomp out hunger. On Wednesday evening, May 2nd, Metropolitan Methodios and Father Demetri Tonias of the Taxiarchae Parish in Watertown, attended an event where former Governor Michael Dukakis and his wife, Kitty Dukakis were the keynote speakers. The speeches focused on historic Greek and Jewish relations and the relationship between the two groups in Greece. Learn a variety of regional dances from experienced and talented instructors. Full-day workshop with each 1½ hour class focusing on a specific region of Greece. At their monthly Synaxis, the clergy of the Metropolis of Boston offered $2,500 in support to Metropolitan Methodios' request that the Parishes and Faithful of New England generously support the The Relief Fund for the People of Greece. His Eminence invited Professor Michaelis M. Psalidopoulos of Tufts University to address the clergy on the economic crisis in Greece and Europe and its ramifications.
