The Sun is high, the grass is green, school is out and that can only mean one thing….SUMMER IS HERE!!!!!!!!! With the arrival of the summer season MBC is proud to announce that the camping season has officially begun.  It is widely known that our camp, filled with fun, faith and fellowship, simply cannot and would not function without the selfless love and dedication of our staff. And, what better way to kick off our camping season than to start with the completion of our staff training. The staff of MBC give of their time talents and treasures throughout the course of a calendar year through meetings, staff outings, weekend trainings and service projects. This year long training finds its completion as the first piece of our summer program in which the staff participate in a three (3) day training at the camp that is focused on giving the staff the “nuts and bolts” that they will need to have a successful summer offering a fantastic experience to their campers. The weekend long training is followed by a longer week training which is focused on continued development of counseling skills as well as personal grow and spiritual reflection. All of the training, whether it be during the calendar year or right before camp, aims to prepare staff for the awesome responsibility of not only physically caring for campers but also for the spiritual responsibility of meeting the campers where they are at and walking them one step closer to Christ on their journey.

Over fifty young adults from all across New England participated in the 2012 summer pre-camp weekend training and training week.  The staff were offered presentations by various leaders in our Faith such as the Reverend Dean Borgman; teaches Youth Ministry at Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Jennifer Nahas; the Executive Director for Orthodox Christian Fellowship, Dr. Telly Papanikalaou; Professor of Orthodox Theology at Fordham University and His Grace Bishop John; the Diocese of Worcester.  All the speakers and presenters spoke on this years camp theme “Community” and focused, in their respective area’s of expertise, on the Orthodox Faith as an experience, not simply a set of rules, and sharing that experience of our living faith with the youth.

The staff also had the opportunity to bond together through various activities such as energizers, team builders and down time. Which, during the training week, carried over into family dinners together as well as visit’s to the homes of staff members who live in the New Hampshire area for movie’s and program planning time.  All in all it was an extremely successful and exciting week which was the PERFECT kick off to our summer season, which is already shaping up to be packed full of fun and a true experience of Christ through our living Faith.
