THE METROPOLIS OF BOSTON CAMP HOSTS CAMPWIDE GLENDI CELEBRATION WITH THE KOSMOS PROJECT
Tuesday, July 30, 2024
His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and the Metropolis of Boston Camp (MBC) hosted a camp-wide Glendi celebration during the fifth week of our summer camp program. Volunteers from across the Metropolis offered their time and talents to put on a night of music, dancing and authentic Greek food.
The celebration included live Greek music, lambs and pigs on a spit, fresh homemade loukoumades and many fun festival-like activities. Campers and staff danced, played games, ate and enjoyed each other's company for over three hours during this unforgettable camp evening activity.
MBC celebrates and promotes our cultural heritage with this annual camp exchange program, The KOSMOS Project, which is now in its 5th year of operation with friends from the Metropolis of Neapolis in Thessaloniki, Greece. This year, 25 young adults from Greece are participating in this week's camp session.
The MBC community thanks all volunteers for their contributions to the celebration:
On the Souvles with the lambs and pigs on the spit, we thank: Dean Ioakimidis, Stavro Ioakimidis, John Ioakimidis, Steve Zacharakis, Paul Tsitsopoulos, Anthony Dakopoulos, all from our St. Athanasius Parish of Arlington. On the Loukoumades, we express our thanks to our Director Pano’s parents: Stephan and Kathy Coufos from the Sts. Constantine and Helen Parish of Andover. We thank Fr. Athanasios Nenes and Constantina Siannas, from the Taxiarchae Parish of Watertown for making the loukoumades dough and honey syrup. Finally, the evening’s entertainment—which was the highlight of the evening—was the live Greek music provided by band members from across New England: Leftheris Kordis on keyboards, Anthony Pentikis on bouzouki, Panagiota Halalakou as the lead singer, and a special thanks to Billy Nicholson from the ENOSIS Greek Band for organizing the entire musical experience. The over 250 campers, staff and guests danced the night away under the New Hampshire star-filled evening sky.
