Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board Hosts Luncheon to Launch New Cookbook, Around the Metropolis Table
Tuesday, November 26, 2024
On the afternoon of November 23, 2024, the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board hosted a luncheon to launch their new cookbook, Around the Metropolis Table, dedicated to Metropolitan Methodios on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his enthronement. The luncheon was attended by over 190 faithful from throughout New England. A lovely afternoon was organized at the Ithaki Restaurant in Peabody, MA. Everyone enjoyed a delicious luncheon prepared by Petros Markopoulos, chef/owner of the Ithaki.
Jane Kourtis, President of the Metropolis Philoptochos Board, remarked “The title of our new cookbook, Around the Metropolis Table, embraces the joy of being seated around a table enjoying a meal together. In the Bible and in our Holy Orthodox Tradition we see many examples of Christ gathered around a table, such as at the wedding in Cana at Galilee, and in the icon of the Holy Trinity. Philoptochos recognizes there are many who do not have a home or a table, and many who suffer from a lack of food. Metropolitan Methodios has spent his 40 year ministry following the tenet of Matthew 25:35, to serve the hungry as we would serve Christ Himself.”
Athena Kalyvas, Chair of the cookbook committee and Co-Chair of the luncheon, who has served as Immediate Past President of the Philoptochos Board, thanked the many individuals who made the cookbook possible. She especially recognized Valerie and Greg Filias of Filias Advertising for the layout, editing and printing of the cookbook, and photographer Mary Antaki, whose photography helped bring the recipes to life. She thanked all the contributors for sharing their favorite recipes.
Elaine Zetes, Third Vice President of the National Philoptochos and member of the Metropolis board, extended greetings from Debbie George, President of the National Board who wrote, “In honoring Metropolitan Methodios today, we recognize not only his lifetime of service to the Greek Orthodox Church, but also the lasting impact of his ministry on all of us. His dedication to the Church, his advocacy for Philoptochos, and his pastoral care in the Metropolis of Boston have been a source of strength and inspiration.”
His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios extended his gratitude to the Metropolis Board and to all who attended. It was truly a beautiful event.
