This past weekend, Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn warmly hosted the Metropolis of Boston Federation of Church Musicians Conference for the first time in 20 years. Over 50 choir members from across the Metropolis enjoyed a weekend filled with music, fellowship, and worship. Beginning on Friday evening, the conference brought together choir members in preparation for the Divine Services on Sunday, November 3rd, culminating in a deeply moving Divine Liturgy.
Guided by the Federation's President, Sophia Argeros, the Choir Director at Saint George, choir members participated in workshops and rehearsals, honing their harmonies and deepening their understanding of liturgical music. The weekend offered a meaningful opportunity for connection, growth, and the shared joy of Orthodox hymnography.
On Sunday, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios celebrated, joining Fr. Alexander Orphanos, the Presiding Priest of Saint George, and Deacon Andrew Bushell. Following the service, His Eminence presented the Federation’s esteemed Patriarch Athenagoras Medal to two dedicated choir members from Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in New London, Connecticut—John Fakis and Dora Georgeady. These honorees were recognized for their outstanding contributions to church music at the Metropolis level, their work embodying devotion and inspiring many within the Orthodox community.
After the award ceremony, a photograph was taken with the entire choir, capturing the unity and spirit of the conference’s participants. The weekend concluded with a fellowship gathering in the church hall, where choir members, clergy, and parishioners celebrated together, reflecting on the beauty of the weekend and the shared mission of glorifying God through music.
This year’s conference at Saint George was a joyous occasion, strengthening bonds across parishes and leaving attendees renewed in faith and song. The spirit of the weekend will resonate throughout the Metropolis as choir members return to their parishes, carrying the warmth of fellowship and inspiration of Orthodox hymnography forward.
