Metropolis Young Adult Event - Cheers to the New Year
Tuesday, January 29, 2019On the evening of Friday, January 25th, 2019 the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries of our Metropolis hosted a “Cheers to the New Year” event at the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston. The event gave the over 80 young adults who participated the opportunity to get to know each other, enjoy fellowship, and take park in a service project. Fr. Demetrios Tonias, Dean of the Cathedral, offered a reflection on the tradition of the Vasilopita, emphasizing that the coin found in the bread is not a sign of good luck but rather a reminder that we are to share the gifts that we have been given in life with our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate.
Following that theme of giving back - the night included a service project for the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). The young adults assembled a total of 200 school kits filled with notebooks, pencils, crayons, and other school supplies. The school kits that were assembled will be given to IOCC and distributed to children who are in need school supplies.
