First GOYA Reunion Dance a Huge Success!

Saturday, November 11,
was a night to remember when almost 400 Greek Orthodox Youth
of America alumni gathered together again for a Reunion Dance with
proceeds benefiting the Greek Orthodox Metropolis Camp of Boston. The
event was held at the iconic Moseley's on the Charles in Dedham, the
same venue that, during the 70s and 80s, hosted dozens of dances for the
youth including the Somerville Senior GOYA's "Queen of Hearts Ball"
and the Boston Cathedral's Christmas Dance. Music
was provided by the "The Glendopetha" who reunited specifically for
this event, as well as "Ta Dilina", both of whom played at many of
the past GOYA dances. As each band began playing for the first time,
attendees rushed up to the stage to photograph the musicians and then
took to the floor and never left it as the orchestra sang songs from
decades past. During intermissions, DJ George kept the glendi going
with vintage disco music and throughout the evening, pictures from past GOYA events and dances continuously flashed on a huge backdrop on stage. Attendees came from all over New England hoping to see and catch up with old friends and acquaintances.

It was fantastic seeing so many old friends and enjoying the wonderful music from the Glendopetha and Ta Dilina!" Helen and Louis Fenerlis stated, "we" had a GREAT time last night at the reunion!!! It was a bit strange to be at Moseley's once again...and it has not changed! Very nicely done!

When asked what it was like to be playing at a Moseley's dance again, "Ta Dilina" musician Phil Papadopoulos remarked," Standing
on that distinct stage once again and playing the songs of an era past
to a dance floor full of familiar faces was nothing short of time travel
into the past."
The
evening netted $16,000 for the Metropolis camp and a check was
presented in December to his Eminence, Metropolitan Methodios
by organizers Fran Giannakopoulos, Pam Pappas-Clarkin, Chuck Samiotes,
Tina Papadopoulos, and Catherine Metropoulos. The date for the next
GOYA Reunion dance has already been set and will be held once again at
Moseley's on Saturday, November 2, 2013.
