MBC Week 2 (July 4-10)
Tuesday, July 19, 2011Session two at the Metropolis of Boston Camp in Contoocook, NH started off with a bang for over 100 campers and staff. With a large fireworks display at our waterfront we celebrated America’s Independence Day all together. The campers who had been dropped off several hours before enjoyed a lakeside barbeque, getting to know their counselors and cabin mates , while waiting for the festivities to begin. Staff members also enjoyed getting in on the fun by dressing up for the occasion as different historical and patriotic characters.
Monday’s celebration was only a taste of things to come. On Tuesday the campers were all surprised by an ice cream truck visiting the camp. We would like to give a special thank you to Dylan Archambault for donating the ice cream, which was enjoyed and very much appreciated by the MBC community. The campers were kept busy all week long with faith based sessions, and were also able to have some fun playing kickball and dodgeball with the counselors, as well as playing in the mud pit and taking turns going down the wild rapids slip and slide. On Friday the older campers were able to partake in a volunteer project doing garden work at Pine Rock Manor in Warner, NH, a retirement community for dementia patients. It was such a success that the older campers will now be going back every week. The week was so much fun that it flew by. Sunday came very quickly, and the camper’s families joined us for Liturgy and brunch before heading home. We hope to see everyone again in February 2012 for winter camp, and again next summer.
