Metropolitan Methodios Led Greek Independence Day Parade in Boston
Tuesday, April 12, 2011In Boston, the festivities marking Greek Independence Day began on Friday, April 8 at the Boston State House. They included a reception at the Greek Consulate. On Saturday, the Omospondeia held a well attended dinner. Metropolitan Methodios presided at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Annunciation Cathedral of Boston on Sunday morning and then the streets of Boston were filled with crowds who admired the floats from almost every parish of the Metropolis and many organizations. Parade Grand Marshalls were Metropolitan Methodios, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Greece's Ambassador to the United States Vassilios Kaskarelis. Honorary Grand Marshalls were: Senator Scott Brown (R-Mass) the new Consul General of Greece to Boston, Ilias Fotopoulos, Member of the Greek Parliament, Efstathios Koutmeridis, George Danis, George and Cathy Sakellaris, Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo, NH State Representative thomas Katsandonis and Professor Michalis Psalidopoulos. Eleni Vidalis is the President of the New England Omospondeia.
