On Sunday, February 13, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios joined the parish family of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Somerville, MA for the inaugural event of the community’s 95th Anniversary—a Choir Reunion of current and former members spanning several decades of experience and dedication. The day began with Orthros and Divine Liturgy, presided by His Eminence. The reunion members sang the hymns of the Divine Liturgy, with former and current directors and organists taking turns leading selected portions of the responses. At the luncheon which followed, the larger parish family was joined by (and excited to see) Father John Govostes (Proistamenos of the Assumption Church in Ipswich, MA), who was formative in the growth of the Somerville Choir from his days as a seminarian. Metropolitan Methodios remarked on the continuity of the parish’s life across several generations and thanked the choir members for their wonderful work. The 95th anniversary celebration of the Dormition Parish highlights the deep roots of the community from the time of the earliest immigrants from Asia Minor.
