Everyone Enjoyed Reunion & Open House at Faith & Heritage Center
Monday, July 26, 2010"Come and See" was the theme of the 2010 Open House, BDC-MBC Reunion, and Family Picnic Celebration, held Saturday July 24, at the St. Methodios Faith & Heritage Center in Contoocook, NH. The day also marked 20 years of Camping Ministry, a joyous celebration for past and present campers
The day began with Orthros and the Divine Liturgy in the Chapel of St. George. The Blessing of the Waters of the largest lake on the property followed with Jerry Perrone, 16, of the Annunciation Church in Worburn, MA retrieving the Cross which his Eminence Metropolitan Methodios threw in the water from the camp boat.
The old style family picnic that followed featured lamgs and pigs on the spit (souvla) souvlakia, horiatiko gyro, loukaniko, spanakopita, hamburgers and hot dogs, salads, tzatziki, feta and olives, and, of course, loukoumades, frappethes, and desserts. Greek music and dancing was enjoyed by all. Visitors were able to view videos of years past playing in all buildings, and to enjoy photo displays and fellowship as well as to share memories.
Photographer Alex Mavridis expressed what was on everyone's mind: "July 24th 2010 was a memorable one for those who attended the 20th Reunion. It was for me, the second time I attended an event at the Faith and Heritage Center and seeing the new Retreat House decorated and in full use. It was a happy occasion for all attending. Plenty of food---fresh roasted lamg and pig on outside rotisseries---and of course how wonderful to see the dedication of the young people to their Greek Orthodox Faith."
In the afternoon, Metropolitan Methodios met and dialogued with Parish Council Presidents in the Great Room of the Retreat house. Metropolitan Methodios also had the opportunity to talk to most of the guests who were especially pleased to be able to see the campers in action----the fourth camp session was in progress---to admire the new furnished Retreat House, to celebrate Orthodoxy and Hellenism. Referring to the day's theme, "Come and See", a visitor said loud enough for many to applaud< "I am glad I came, and what I see is a bright future for our Church---for Orthodoxy and for Hellenism. i am indeed very proud today. I feel good."
