Metropolis of Boston Camp Summer 2007 Session 2
Wednesday, July 25, 2007The Metropolis of Boston Youth Ministries has enjoyed an exhilarating second session of its Camp, with over 100 campers in attendance. The reasons are countless as to the growth and development of the Metropolis of Boston Camp (MBC). MBC reaches out to JOY and GOYA age youth of the Metropolis, offering a unique haven for Orthodox campers to come together and share in learning more about their Orthodox faith, join in fellowship with other Orthodox youth their age, and of course, have some fun! These three elements fuse together to create the critical mix that makes MBC a camp different than any other, giving just that little something extra to its campers, and truly instilling a sense of family in all involved - campers and staff.
Despite the clouds and sun showers, camp opened with a wonderful bonding indoor cook out where the campers were able to make lasting first impressions. The traditional loud camp fire following this scrumptious meal allowed campers to direct all their energy towards a truly riveting evening filled with faith, fun, and fellowship. The camp day program session revolved around the theme of the 12 major Feasts of the Greek Orthodox Church. In Sounding Board sessions, counselors guided discussions pertaining to these Feasts and shared how our faith is applied through experiences in our daily lives.
In addition to this spiritually growing experience, campers and staff enjoyed many unique evening activities. While JOY ventured out in a camp wide scavenger hunt, GOYA participated in a creative outdoor "mission" known as Granny. Other evening activities included, Super Hero Night, a Christmas in July party, the traditional glendi, our fabulous talent show along with the highly anticipated quite campfire to close the week in reflection and song. It was a great second week filled with lasting friendships, spiritual growth and of course many memories that will last a lifetime.
