National Philoptochos Grant Awarded to Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

The Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center began in 1954 in response to the growing need for care for the elderly population left alone. The current facility is located in Canton, Massachusetts and primarily serves the communities of Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts. The Home provides an emphasis on ethnic, spiritual, and cultural needs of the Greek Community. The Hellenic Home is under the direction of the Hellenic Women’s Benevolent Association.
The mission of the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is to provide resident focused comprehensive health care services to individuals requiring restorative, skilled nursing care and long term care within a safe, secure and caring environment.
The National Philoptochos granted the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center $15,000 from the 75th Anniversary Founders Fund to be used toward the refurbishment of the Alzheimer and Dementia unit. The National Philoptochos Ministry Commitment of the 75th Anniversary Founders Fund was established to honor the history of the National Philoptochos and its founders. The monies collected from Philoptochos Chapters across the country are distributed to support continuing care facilities serving the aging Greek Population of the United States.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012 National Board Members and Past Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Presidents Christine Karavites and Elaine Kevgas presented the check to Vicky Kechris, President of the Hellenic Women’s Benevolent Association. Also in attendance were Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board and HWBA Board members Eleni Stamboulidis and Frances McInnis. President Kechris greeted the members of Philoptochos. And on behalf of the HWBA, she thanked the Philoptochos for their continued and generous support of the Home.
