Grant for Older Adults – Report

The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos was awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Philoptochos Social Services program at the National Philoptochos Biennial Convention in July 2006, to be used specifically for the needs of older adults, age 62 and over.  The criteria for requests were for services not funded through any other available source, including medication, medical equipment, transportation, housing, counseling, utilities, food, clothing, minor repairs and cleaning services. All of the available funds ($10,000) were disbursed. 

Grants were awarded to adults 62 years of age and over who met the specified criteria

Grant amount was up to $500 per request; exceptions to $500 cap per request were reviewed on a case by case basis

Grants were reviewed and issued on a first-come basis

The grant recipients were both male and female, with their age averaging between 62 and mid-70’s (one grant age 93)
