Rev. Fr. Andrew George

Fr. Andrew George, son of Anthony and Smaro, was born and raised in Monessen, PA. His Greek ancestry originates from the island of Rhodes. In his youth he was active in all aspects of parish life at St Spyridon Parish, Monessen, with the Boys Scouts of America and with the Glee Club and theater group at Monessen High School. From 1965 through today he has been involved in Orthodox summer camp programs of the Pittsburgh, Detroit and Boston Diocese. He was also involved Ionian Village in Greece for 5 years straight and served as Assistant Director from 1974-77. He is a 1966 graduate of Monessen High School, a 1970 graduate of Hellenic College and 1973 graduate of Holy Cross Seminary.

While at HCHC, he was involved with the student government, served as chapel sacristan for 5 years, on the staff of the Hellenic College Yearbook and produced and directed radio programs for the seminary's "Contemplate Radio Show" which aired on Boston's WROR FM. During the summers of 1970, 71 and 72, he traveled over 45,000 miles by van throughout the USA with the Hellenic College-Holy Cross Summer Good-Will Tour, serving as tour leader in 1971 and 1972. Upon graduation, besides his 5 summers at the Ionian Village he served as lay assistant to the priest and youth coordinator in Toledo, OH, administered the St Spyridon Parish in Monessen (during a 6 month interim of an assignment of a priest for the parish), served for a year on the staff of St Basil's Academy and also served as lay assistant to the priest and youth coordinator and later deacon in Rochester, NY.

He was married to Maria Voulgarakis of Weirton, WV on April 24, 1977, ordained to the diaconate on September 18, 1977 in Monessen, PA and ordained to the priesthood on November 5, 1977 in Rochester, NY. His first parish assignment was to the St George community in Bangor, Maine serving there for 5 and a half years.

Fr. Andrew has been serving at the Annunciation Parish in Cranston, RI since 1983. Since being in Cranston, the parish bexpanded their Rev Peter Mihailides Community Center in 1989, made major upgrades to the church grounds, celebrated their centennial year 2005, and currently are enhancing the church interior in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the construction of the church to be observed in 2018. Presvytera Maria passed on unexpectedly on August 20, 2012. Two children graced their marriage, Anthony Nektarios ('78) and Kassiane Eleni ('82). Kassiane is married to Michael Campopiano, Esq of Cranston and they have 2 children, Giulian Andrew and Lucia Maria.
